Day 365+1

Well I almost completed the challenge and it's great to have a record of the year in photos.  As I look back over the year it's the things that I am grateful for that come to the fore.
My first big thanks is for my job,  I have so loved being in employment again.  Not just for the money (although that has been very handy) but I have grown in confidence and rediscovered parts of the old me that I thought were long forgotten.  And I love being given pictures from the children which go on my fridge.
I know that I have made reference to this confidence in previous posts but it has been such a major part of my year that it has to be mentioned here.  One of my old loves that I have picked up and grown with has been cake decorating.  Still very much a novice here are some mini cakes that I have been working on the last couple of days.
Of course none of this would have been half so good if Peter hadn't been there supporting and encouraging.  Oh dear, think it's worn him out!!
Another great joy has been meeting up with our God daughter (well we were never officially god parents just known as them - don't ask) .  Meeting her husband and seeing how happy they are together was just great.
And the last joy of the year has yet to come.  Our God son (same confusion as with our god daughter) has been in contact and will be coming to stay later this week.  I am so excited and feel so blessed that as adults they still want to be in touch.  This is only his facebook photo.

Days 363 and 265

Day 363 Something I would Change
My first thought was the size of my hips and posterior.  Then I thought that was a bit flippant and went the other way.  The change I would wish for most would have to be a change from conflict to peace, in the small as well as the large things in life.  This is the only way I could think of photographing this.

Day 365 End
As I read today's word our tin of Heros was fast coming to an end.  Opps it ended.

Days 360 to 362

Day 360 Something on your Table
Well this photo should have been one of Christmas dinner for two.  However this was not to be.  I was woken up at 8am (having got to bed at 1.30am) by the phone.  It was my brother.  He had been expecting to go to Mum's for dinner but Mum had just phoned to say she had gone down with a bad cold and didn't want to pass it on.  The phone call was to ask if they could come here.  So half asleep I was working out that yes we had enough turkey and pudding but veg might be a bit short, so they brought veg with them.  It turned out to be a wonderful day.  As a child Christmas was always a nightmare and since being married I have avoided my family at Christmas because of the arguments. I have however always wanted a family Christmas and felt sad that it was probably never going to happen.  Thanks to Mum's cold this year it did.
Lunch was so much fun I forgot to take a photo.  Here though is supper which we picked at through the evening and was a combination of our and my brothers fridge contents.
The other table had to be the coffee table which was just smothered in things.
Day 361 Delight
We had been expecting my brother to come today so they stayed over last night.  Today's photo has to be of my niece as she was eating her lunch, so full of giggles and delight.
Day 362 Special
As much as I loved having family here today is special because I am on my own in a lovely quiet house.  Peter is working and I am clearing old files from my computer.  Because my old computer was stolen I have thousands of files that have been recovered from various CDs and memory sticks.  They contain all the data I lost but not the file name.  Because deleted files have also been recovered there are several copies of many files and the only way to sort through is to open the file and decide if I want to keep it.  I am also spending some time scrapping.  How to photograph being on my own was a challenge.  In the end I decided to snap the calendar showing the date for today and tomorrow.  The calendar was given to us by a very special couple as well.

Day 359 Mouthwatering

I expect that the next few days will be full of plenty of mouthwatering goodies and knowing me not many good for me things.  Today I went down the market first thing and bought the last minute things that I forgot last week.  On of the things I got was fruit and veg including some lychees which were great for this photo.  However they were so mouthwatering I ate them all before taking the photo so here are the remains.

Have a great day tomorrow everyone.

Days 366 and 367

Day 366 Green
Hooray today I crafted and used my green cutting mat.  It's very small and not entirely flat but serves it's purpose well.
 Day 367 Festive
Today I ices the Christmas cake.  It needs something putting on top to finish it, but is still a promise of Christmas and so festive.

Day 365 Red

Oh dear things did really go to pot, I even gave up on the course for the last couple of days.
Well Today was the last day of term and I came home not only feeling like crafting (haven't really felt like that for weeks) but also I could face the thought of taking a photo.
Here are the earnings I have been wearing to school this week.  Yesterday was party day so I turned them on and they flashed.  It was a pretty pathetic flash but still fun.

Day 343 and 344

This blog has rather gone to pot thanks to the photography course.  But life seems to be back into coping mode which is good news.
Day 344 Lights
I took this photo last night as a silly portrait for the course.

Day 343 Mundane
Another photo for the course.  This was using a metal sieve over the lense to give it the star burst effect.

Day 339 Couple

Here is the photo I took for 12 days of Christmas.  I took it a couple of times focusing in different spots.

Day 338

Peter got the Christmas decorations out yesterday so that I could use them for the 12 days of Christmas course.  My photo for today fits the theme for both challenges.  It has curves and I've spelt out a Christmas greeting.

Day 337 something random, but asymmetrical!

I was going to use my photo for the 12 days of Christmas course but as I was uploading the photos from this morning Peter called out to quickly look out of the window.  I saw nothing but grabbed the camera card out of the computer and along with my camera ran downstairs.  From the patio I could see why he was so excited.  There in the sky was an upside down rainbow.  I snapped away before realizing that it fitted today's word perfectly.

Day 334 and 335

Day 334
Today was our town's Christmas evening and I always love seeing this merry go round.

Day 335
I have decided to do Cheryl Johnson - 12 Days of Christmas 2012 photography course so I am afraid that I will be using those photos for the next 12 days.  However I managed to fit today's photo into the the theme of around the home.  Here is a bowl of marbles that I collected while we were abroad.  When I was working in town and living in  the village I bought a few each week I returned to the village.  The joke was that when I had bought enough to fill the bottle I was collecting them in we would move to the town.  I never did fill the bottle we moved first.

Day 334

Well my theme for today almost fits in with the word debris.
With no overtime I managed to get the house straight and put my feet up.

Wednesday, November 28, 2012

Day 333

I have been doing a lot of overtime the last two weeks.  Even though I am still doing less hours than in a full time job I have been totally exhausted.  Last week I just felt pathetic that I couldn't cope this week I have started developing strategies to help me through.   Today I treated myself to lunch out before I had to go back to work.  It really got me through even though I was exhausted at the end.
Here is my lunch stop.
It's just gone 9 and I'm off to bed before I fall asleep.

Day 332

Today I took the car to school as I had a lot of cakes to take in.  As I will also be going back in after school I will be seeing a lot of rain through the windscreen.  This photo was taken on our drive.

Day 331

This blog has gone to pieces over the last week, as have I.  I'm not going to try and catch up but I am going to try and take a photo each day although it may well not be one which relates to the word for the day.
Today as I was walking to school I was very aware of the mornings drawing in as the street lights were on.

Days 321 and 322

Day 321 Fence
I didn't get round to taking a photo on Friday.  Today Saturday I was trimming some shrubs at the top of the garden.  Our back hedge has been trimmed a bit further than we would have wished but look into it and there is a fence
Day 322 Books
One very good use for books is putting on top of layouts to hold embellishments down as the glue sets.  This is just what I used them for today.

Day 319 and 320

Day 319 Nostalgic
I have volunteered to cook the veggie option for a meal at church on Friday evening.  Many years ago I was veggie and loved making this recipe so in a way revisiting it is sort of nostalgic.  The amazing thing was even though I hadn't cooked it for years I could remember that it was recipe number 63.

Day 320 Uplifting
Another food theme today.  After my baking success last week I decided that maybe I should practise some fancy decorations.  Having seen so much spun sugar and caramel cages I decided to have a play.   In true me style I didn't bother to find out the proper way to do it but just heated some sugar in a saucepan.  My attempts weren't exactly award winning but I didn't burn it and I sort of got some shape.  A lot of practise is required but my first attempts were very uplifting.
Oh yes and I made the recipe form yesterday.

Day 318 Thoughtful

My first thought today was what is the difference between thoughtful and ponder.  Then I started thinking about thoughtful acts and knew that if I waited until evening there would be some thoughtful act that Peter did for me to photograph.  I was dead right
This morning I was trying to find these tops.  Peter found them after I had left but didn't put them away as he wasn't sure where they went.  He was thoughtful enough to tell me where I had left them though.

The other day I mended a bubble tube with super glue.  Knowing my track record with super glue (remember the chair stuck to the floor!!!!) I was really careful.  Not careful enough.  As well as sticking the loop back on this one I managed to stick the lid on permentally.  I tried to free it in the day and failed.  I mentioned it to Peter and he just quietly picked it up and made it fit for use again.  I was very grateful for the quiet thoughtful act.

Days 315 and 316

Day 315 Warm
Today we went up to London to see the Lord Mayors show and unlike many people we were watching in the warm.  Peter's company very kindly allow staff to watch from their London office which overlooks Cheapside.  However I didn't take any photos as looking down on the parade is not so good for pics.  Instead I chose to take our dressing gowns.  My mother made mine well over 30 years ago and then Peters a few years later.  They are old and getting thin. They clash with the colour of our bedroom but we haven't found anything as warm and snugly as they are and so are reluctant to replace them.
Day 316 Memories
I have so many memories that to chose one to photograph would be difficult.  Instead I turned my thoughts to recording memories.  I use my scrapping as therapy and as well as scrapping those precious moments I scrap the painful ones.  Most of my books are in a cupboard but these two are on the shelf over my desk.  One is full of good pretty things and has beautiful ribbons in the rings.  The other was made to help me work through a distressing messy time and so has no prettiness about it's decoration choosing instead to have tatty dirty brown fabric.  My scrapping helps me lay the bad memories to rest and once I have filed them in this way I am so often more able to carry on with living today.

Days 313 and 314

Day 313 Domestic
Easy one today as I am hoovering.
Day 314 Ponder
This one had me going for a while, how do I take a photo of ponder?
Yesterday I was not only being domestic with the hoovering but I was also baking cakes for a competition.  Peter's company was holding a baking competition on the theme of poppies.  The cakes were to be judged and then sold to staff in aid of the poppy appeal and  I had been invited to join in and was baking my entry.
When we first came back from Tanzania my self confidence was very low.  Getting a job has really boosted it and I have started believing that I can do things such as baking for others and have become more adventurous.  Today my cakes were voted best in show and my confidence has grown even more.  I found myself pondering these thoughts as I made tonight's supper, how one little bit of confidence has started it to keep on growing.  So here is one of my cakes which started all this pondering off.

Day 312 Creature

This little fellow was given to me many years ago as a kit for a Christmas present.  I loved making it and had it on my desk at work.  When we went abroad it was one of those things which I couldn't really give storage space to but left it in the garage as I couldn't bring myself to throw it out.  I was so pleased to find that none of our lodgers had thrown or damaged it and it now sits on my bookshelf.

Day 311 Dotty

I think that probably the most appropriate photo for today would have been another self portrait.  Yesterday I posted here and forgot to link it to Suzie's page!!!
Instead here is a little pot bought on Zanzibar which sits above my desk.  It was really tourist junk but I fell in love with it and it has lots of bead as dots all  over it.

Day 310 Bright

Here are the embellishments I drew yesterday for my next layout.  Lovely and bright.

Days 308 and 309

Day 308 Group
Today was my nieces first birthday and while I took loads of photos of her the one I chose to use was one of her toys.  They were all over the floor but here is one small group of them.

Day 309 Paper
There couldn't have been a better prompt for today.  I am off to have an afternoon playing with paper.  I had hoped to get more done this half term break but it wasn't to be.  Here is my box of scrap paper which I am always rummaging through to find that perfect piece for a LO but still it continues to get fuller and fuller.

Days 303 to 307

Monday I went to visit my great aunt in South Wales.  Having visited her in the afternoon I had a walk along the beach.  I love watching the waves crashing in.  Not many statues but this rock was as sure and solid as any statue.
Th rest of these photos were taken yesterday on a visit to London.  We started at Little Venice and walked back to Camden Lock along the canal and then back to Baker Street through Regents Park.  I really great day and Camden Market was brilliant.
What could be more quirky than a life size model cow on a balcony in London.
A tricky one for me this.  As we passed London Zoo I saw this poster.  Lions can cause fear.
The sun was beautiful streaming through the trees on our walk back through Regents Park.
 Primary Colours
My pro markers on my grubby desk.

Days 300 to 302

Day 300 Orange
Today after school I went to visit my muslim friends for Eid and they painted my hands with henna.  Technically it was brown but it was a very orange brown and so I thought it qualified for todays photo.
My left hand was done by the eldest daughter and it was so good to see how she had grown in skill and confidence since she last painted my hands (remember the dripping red nails!?!)
My right hand was more detailed but it was done by an adult with far more practise.
 Day 301 Crooked
Today was scrap crop day and there were lots of goodies on sale.  I already owned one of these boxes of little alphabet stamps and loved them so much I couldn't resist these two new styles as they were only 99p a box.  How do they fit today's word?  Well the letters aren't 100% square on the stamp so you are never sure of the angle that your letters will come out but if you design your lettering so that it is purposefully not in a straight line (ie crooked) it looks great.
 Day 302 Dark
I tried taking a photo in the dark but with the flash it didn't look dark and with no flash it was a black mess.  I them went through several dark objects until I spotted this bag.  It had caused chaos as it fell off my shelf an knocked my embellishments )which had wet paint on them) onto a new piece of 12x12 paper.  And it's dark.
